The Perlis Fatwa Committee has declared that the teachings and beliefs espoused by GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) as deviant and a continuation of the banned al-Arqam movement.
The committee made the decision following a meeting held earlier today chaired by Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.
“The committee decided that teachings propagated by GISBH contain deviant elements, particularly the batiniah element.
“It’s also a continuation of the al-Arqam teachings which had been declared deviant earlier.
“Those in GISBH make cult personality out of their leaders and religious teachers - so much so that they are placed at the same level as the prophet,” reads the statement issued by the committee.

According to the Perlis Fatwa Committee, batiniah refers to the act of believing that nothing but Allah exists, and God manifests Himself through his creations, whereby both God and His creations become one.
Yesterday, the court granted a seven-day remand order against 19 individuals from GISBH, including its CEO Nasiruddin Mohd Ali and his wife.
According to Bernama, the remand application for the individuals aged between 25 and 65 was submitted before magistrate Wan Noora Nisa Ngadirin at the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
They are being held at the Shah Alam district police headquarters.
Deviant business module
The Perlis Fatwa Committee also found that GISBH’s business module had flouted Islamic principles.
This was because it contained elements of child, women, and family exploitation to benefit their leaders.
“As such, any teachings, activities and others which would help GISBH in any way are forbidden.
“We also recommend Muslims to help re-educate members of GISBH who wish to steer away from the deviation, and we can use zakat monies for this.
“This includes assistance in terms of giving them proper teachings, rebuilding their lives and providing security and legal assistance,” the committee said.
